ORCHID is a 14-unit urban infill affordable housing project. Working with client Society of Master Craftsmen, a historic structure was retained and becomes a small restaurant activating the public space just off the street. The project does not provide parking - instead it uses the space for communal gathering.  It integrates art and craft throughout, focusing on local practitioners who work with their hands. The units are small in footprint yet soaring in height; full of light with fresh air circulation provided by many operable windows.  ORCHID celebrates detail and the unexpected moment.  It creates a community of tenants.
